For a couple years now, the hubs and I have been playing Pokémon Go on our phones. We stopped for a bit when it seemed like all we were encountering in the wild were the same three Pokémon, but we’ve been back on it for a year or more.
Somewhat recently, Niantic (the Pokémon Company) has been stepping up their game (haha) and releasing new content. Shinies, alolan, and the most recent: Team Rocket.
I don’t have much play time in with the Team Rocket release; the hubs took my phone for a walk to spin a Rocket stop and catch a shadow Pokémon. It looks pretty cool, though.
I’m in a competition with my hubs and his best friend that they don’t know about. Who can catch the most shinies? The best? I’d like to think I’m winning, but…
Anyway.
I caught my newest shiny and almost didn’t realize it. Meet shiny Ekans.
She’s not the best Pokémon you could ever have, but she’s fucking GREEN. And this, I have to say, is what I like best about the shinies.

That shouldn’t make anyone as happy as it makes me, but fuck it. I love looking for this one-in-450 little cutie.
I’ve been pretty successful during community days, snagging several of each new shiny released. Evolving is a thrill, too. I try to use pineaps when catching a shiny to up my candy count and fully evolve the shiny. I want the entire collection.
This hobby of ours gets us out of the house and walking, so I have to say it’s a bit of a win-win. Except the major battery-drain the game tends to be. But that’s what power banks are for.
